On the road in the Swedish lion’s den

When the third round of the Nordic 4 Championship kicks off this weekend, new drivers will have the home court advantage.

The field crosses the Øresund to hit the Gelleråsen Arena in Karlskoga, and the home track advantage changes significantly. At the same time, two new Swedish drivers enter the fray in the new Aquila Formula Nova with the clear aim of stealing the limelight from the championship’s previous top drivers.

The first two rounds of this year’s Nordic 4 Championship have seen intense racing, rookie triumphs and Danish dominance on the tarmac. But this weekend, the tables will be turned. The formal talents will compete at Gelleråsen Arena, and for the first time this season, it’s the Danish and international drivers who are on the road, while the Swedes can roll out on a tarmac they know inside out.

Several of the Swedish drivers in the field will undoubtedly benefit from the Swedish home crowd and their knowledge of the track’s tricky corner combinations. But they will also face new challenges. The weekend offers additions to the list of participants. The two Swedish drivers, Elias Adestam and Jonathan Öhlander, are entering the championship in style. They will compete in the brand new Aquila Formula Nova, which has already taken its first victories in the hands of Richard Olson.

Adestam and Öhlander aren’t just here to fill up the ranks; they’re here to attack. Their mission is crystal clear: they are going to try to take on Richard Olson, who took a superb double victory at the Spring Race. The question is whether Olson can maintain his usual speed and ice in his stomach when the pressure mounts and he is suddenly being chased by highly motivated compatriots on Swedish soil.

Gelleråsen Arena is renowned for being a technical and demanding track that penalises the slightest mistake, and it will put the entire tight field to the ultimate test.

Drivers like Michella Rasmusen, Rosanne den Drijver and Janine Wermuth will have to prove that they can adapt quickly to the new surroundings outside Denmark, while Matteis Stigsen also faces a crucial weekend where he will try to increase his championship lead.

This weekend’s race will be broadcast live on the Gelleråsen Arena YouTube channel.
