The new Aquila Formula Nova took its first two wins in the Nordic 4 class at the second round of the championship at FDM Jyllandsringen this weekend.
Two weeks after its debut at Padborg Park, the Nordic 4 field was back on the tarmac and in the time trials, Swedish driver Richard Olson took pole position – his and Aquila’s first – for the first race of the weekend. He did so with a good margin over Matteis Stigsen, who also received a four-place penalty for exceeding the speed limit in the pits
In Saturday’s heat, Swedish driver Olson drove the Danish-made single-seater straight to victory ahead of Matteis Stigsen, who took second place, while the other Aquila Formula Nova, driven by Leonel Skaar, took third place.
On Sunday morning, however, it was a completely different person who took her first victory. Mille Hoe, who already delivered a great performance at the opening race two weeks ago, continued the fast pace and drove her way from third place to the lead after a short battle with pole sitter Milla Sjöstrand, who then did her part to go wide and secure a historic female 1-2 result. In third place was Matteis Stigsen, who fought Richard Olson for a long time, but was forced to roll the car over the line with a faulty suspension.
The final heat started with drama when Mille Hoe and Milla Sjöstrand came into close contact in the battle for second place and had to resume the fight from the back of the field. In the meantime, Matteis Stigsen managed to build a small lead over Richard Olson, who caught up with the Funen driver and eventually – helped by a minor driving error from the young rookie – was able to pass and take his second heat victory. Leonel Skaar finished third, much to the delight of the GT Marbella team and Aquila Racing Cars.
Jørgen Leerskov had a stable weekend with good speed in the car and secured good points for the championship with two fourth places, while Mille Hoe holds on to her second place in the championship despite a disappointing final heat for her. Milla Sjöstrand took fifth place in the final heat, but the pace is definitely up for the Swedish driver. Her teammate, Janine Wermuth, improved throughout the weekend, so there must be some satisfaction for the RaceCraft Driver Academy.
The next race in the Nordic 4 Championship will be held at Gelleråsen Arena on the last weekend in May, where several new participants are expected to compete.
